Baltimore Album patterns were made in the city of Baltimore, Maryland in the 1840's - 1850's. The reason they were called "albums" was because each block was different, unique, and personal, like photo's from a picture album. The predominant colors used in these quilts were red, green, bright blue, brown, gold, and pink.
The main purpose for this class is to inspire you to create your own version of this rare, pre-Civil War classic. In preparation for this class, I recommend deciding which color you would use for your background fabric used in each individual block. Search the internet for photos of quilts, and various colors used. Be open to new ideas, and get ready to make your own personal family album quilt.
This class will cover applique with batting, embroidery, ribbon placement, and flower placement. This series of classes will run for six months. There will be six quilt blocks used in a diagonal setting.

Class Name: Celebration
Instructor:Patty O’Neill
Category:Quilting
Procedure:Quilt Assembly
Topic: Precision Sewing [NO MORE PAPER PIECING]
I chose "Celebration" as the class name for many reasons. Having quilted for a long time,
I have learned all of the procedures that result in a finished product. Some of the procedures never came easy for me.
I have always tried to find a better way to work on quilt assembly. I love precision and because of that, I have had
many days of ripping out seams trying to make points meet. That frustration led me to develop a procedure that I call
"No More Paper Piecing". Not having to pick out paper any more when quilting is cause for celebration, therefore the
name of this class. I am using birthdays as a topic for the first project because this is the
"birth" of an entirely
new approach [paper free] to creating different types of quilt patterns. Many of us have had embroidery machines for
years and we have used them for all of our basic embroidery needs. I believe that this new technique will introduce
you to an entirely new way to use your embroidery machine.
In this class we will be using various designs including Birthday Cake, Birthday gift boxes, Borders, Flying Geese,
and Labels. I will be using a video to demonstrate the actual stitch-out step by step. .
At the end of this class, my designs will be available through Embroidery.com under my vendor name, Porcupine Point
Designs. In addition there will be a pattern developed by Dennie Sullivan for the assembly of the finished product.
Dennie has been a well known quilting teacher in Arizona for more than twenty years. She is a member of Agave Quilters,
the Arizona Quilt Guild and the American Quilting Society (AQS).
